Plant Healthy
The CIH recognises the importance of good plant and tree biosecurity practice in helping to minimise the risk of introducing and spreading harmful pests and diseases. Increasing levels of international trade and travel, and climate change, are some of the reasons why the number of pest threats continues to increase, with ensuing environmental and economic risks.
The CIH is proud to be a member of the Plant Health Alliance of professional and trade bodies, NGOs and the UK governments, united in our interest in protecting our precious plants and trees.
The Plant Health Management Standard, commissioned by the Alliance and independently reviewed, provides a systematic and proactive approach to plant biosecurity that can be applied by any enterprise engaged in growing, buying, selling, or planting trees and plants, anywhere. The Plant Healthy Certification Scheme provides the means for independent audit against this Standard, and recognition for certified members.
Certification is one of the ways in which operators can embed good plant health practice, and further details are on the Plant Healthy website.
