The South West Branch Regional Final of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture Young Horticulturist of the Year 2020 competition is planned for April 4th in the Story of Gardening exhibition space at The Newt in Somerset near Castle Cary, Somerset. Eight of the best young horticulturists in our region battle it out for a place at the Grand Final, being held this year at RBGE Logan Botanic Gardens near Stranraer on May 2nd.

Our eight competitors come from Bicton College, Sparsholt College, The Eden Project, Kingston Maurward College, RHS Rosemoor, Duchy College and an open heat.

We are proud to tell you that our regional sponsor is The Newt in Somerset (https://thenewtinsomerset.com/) who are kindly donating both the venue and hospitality for this event. Without their support and our national sponsors, the Percy Thrower Trust  / Shropshire Horticultural Society  (www.shrewsburyflowershow.org.uk) , the competition would not go ahead.

Unfortunately due to limitations in venue size this event will only be open to an audience of invited guests of the competitors, the Branch committee and of the Newt, therefore this regional final will not be open to a general audience. To avoid disappointment, please do not turn up on the day with the intention of accessing this event, as you will not be able to gain admittance to the exhibition space.
