HMP Hull

HMP Hull, Hedon Road, Hull, HU9 5LS

Meet Time: 10.30am

By car, head towards the ferry port and the prison is just before it. There is a free car park (number 4) for visitors on Southcoates Lane.

HMP Hull has award winning internal grounds and is a positive demonstration of the use of horticulture as a tool for rehabilitation. Currently 20 inmates undertake an NVQ in Practical Horticultural Skills as part of their rehabilitation, actively participating in a range of horticultural tasks within the walls: from general amenity horticulture to commercial enterprise and environmental initiatives. Giving them the valuable skills to enable them to seek employment in the sector upon release.

Horticulture Instructors Dave Wilson & Pete Bartle will lead our tour of the horticultural facilities and workshops and facilitate a discussion with prisoners employed on the gardens team as well as the prison senior management about the use of horticulture as a tool for rehabilitation and the benefits to health and wellbeing.
