RHS Garden Bridgewater

Time: Meet at 10.30am outside the Welcome Building

Opened on 18 May 2021, RHS Garden Bridgewater is the fifth RHS garden and one of the largest and most spectacular gardening projects undertaken in Europe in recent years. The transformation of this 154-acre green space will enrich the lives of local communities and their environment for the future. There is so much to see – the Weston Walled Garden contains multiple garden rooms, setting the tone for a journey of exploration with colourful themed borders, complementary sub-gardens and characterful listed buildings. The Worsley Welcome Garden and the emerging Chinese Streamside Garden offer time for relaxation and thought as well as the wider woodland, meadows and lakes which further add to the enjoyment. Garden Curator Marcus Chilton-Jones will lead a guided tour for members, taking in the garden highlights and explaining how the garden was brought in to being.

Marcus Chilton-Jones

Marcus Chilton-Jones joined the RHS in 2017 as the Curator at RHS Garden Bridgewater, with overall responsibility for delivering the horticultural aspects of Europe’s largest gardening project. His background is in heritage gardens and landscapes, temperate fruit growing and sustainable/ecologically sensitive gardening practices. Prior to joining the RHS Marcus worked as a gardener for the National Trust and as curator at The Dorothy Clive Garden in Staffordshire, during which time the garden won several sustainable tourism awards. He studied his BA in Heritage Management at the University of Manchester, so is especially pleased to be working on a world-class garden in the local area.

This CPD visit has been organised jointly by the Northern and North West & North Wales Branches, and is open to all members and guests. Students are actively encouraged to join us.

Cost: Members £10, Guests £15, cash on the day please. Free for RHS Members.
