The Institute encourages and rewards excellence in horticulture through a number of awards and prizes some of which are open to non-members.

Chartered Institute of Horticulture Award
Prestigious award made to individuals who have made an outstanding and significant contribution to horticulture. Recipients of the Award need not necessarily be members of the Institute. There are no more than 50 holders of the award at any one time.

President’s Award
An Award made each year to a member of the President’s choice and endorsed by the Executive Committee.

Norah Stucken Award
Awarded to recent projects that have made a significant impact on horticulture. The Award can be given for an amenity or conservation project, a development of a new crop,  a major book or a series of research papers. The Award commemorates Norah Stucken who was a long-standing publisher of the trade magazine, The Grower

Aberconway Prize
A £500 Prize is awarded for best annually submitted dissertation by students or horticulturists under the age of 30 on the closing date 1 July each year

James Bruce Prize
Awarded annually to the person achieving the highest marks in the RHS Diploma in Horticulture Practical Examination

College Prizes
One year's free membership to the Institute students nominated by participating horticultural colleges. College Prize winners

The Institute also runs its annual Young Horticulturist of the Year competition. The overall winner collects the £2,000 Percy Thrower Travel Bursary  provided by the Shropshire Horticultural Society, which funds a horticultural tour anywhere in the world. The competition is open to any horticulturist who is below the age of 30 on July 31st in the year of the competition. More information
