Myerscough College, this year’s venue for the regional final, some six miles north of Preston, is a leading Uk land-based college dating back to the 19th century. Today, there are around 7000 students, and more than 1000 studying Higher Education degrees in partnership with the University of Central Lancashire. Subjects include horticulture, arboriculture, landscape design through to equine studies, farriery and machinery engineering. Find out more about the college here (opens external link).

There will be buffet and drinks on arrival with the option of a  brief tour of the campus at 6pm before the competition begins at 6.45pm. The contestants will be asked a wide range of horticultural questions, some through buzzer round, and others directed to individuals. There are also two identification rounds to further test the depth and breadth of knowledge. The regional final awards 1st place with £150, 2nd place receives £100 and 3rd place £75.  The winner progresses on to the Grand Final at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew on Saturday 11 May.
