Matthew will introduce the talk by celebrating about the 180th anniversary of Horticulture Week, and then analyse how the horticulture trade has changed during the pandemic of 2020/21. Discussing the impact of Brexit on the sector and how race and gender have risen up the agenda and how the industry has reacted. He will also give an overview on future gardening and horticulture industry trends.
About Matthew Appleby
Matthew has worked at Horticulture Week since 2003 and has been editor since 2020. He has written three gardening books, one each on allotments, children’s gardening and vegan gardening. Matthew also writes about gardening for newspapers and consumer media, speaks at events and on the TV and radio. He trained in journalism at the University of Canterbury and is RHS-qualified. Matthew has won three Garden Media Guild awards and Horticulture Week is the reigning trade magazine of the year!
