Commencing in September each year the RHS offers two programmes of training: the Wisley Diploma in Practical Horticulture is a two year long course and leads on the RHS Diploma in Horticulture (written papers), the syllabus of which is studied during the day release classes at horticultural college. Work Experience is gained through paid employment within the Garden. Applicants should possess a NCH or a NVQ Level 2 or a RHS General with a minimum of 12 months work experience.

The Specialist Options Scheme offers one year of paid work experience and training activities to those who work or want to work in any of the following areas: Ornamental Horticulture, Rock and Alpine gardening, Arboriculture & Estate Management, Orchid Cultivation & Glasshouse Technique and Fruit Cultivation.
